2005 Florianopolis Brazil
In August of 2005, Tim, in partnership with 3 other Canine trainers,
trained 31 Dog teams in Florianopolis Brazil.
Tim’s partners included:
Master Trainer Fred Helfers of Washington State
Instructor Steve Echeveria of Washington State
Instructor Duane Wantland of Washington State
This intense training course was conducted over 30 days. Handlers
and dogs were put through rigorous tests and practicum. The handlers
in attendance of this seminar were from the Brazilian Federal, Military
and Civil Police.

Tim’s training group consisted of 11 Brazilian police officers and their
Canines. The dogs all varied in breeds, but were all effective.
Labradors, German Shepherds, Belgium Malonois, Springer Spanials, and
Beagles. The Brazilian government was very serious in their pursuit
of advancing their Canine’s team in their training methodology and application.
The methodology is consistent with training done by the Pacific Northwest
Police Detection Dog Association.
Each day classes started with a video review of actual training from the previous day, in which critiquing was done of the handler’s activity with his/her Canine. Tim focused on Handler error and searches of luggage, containers and parcels. Each team of handler and dog were put through training session that focused on : vehicle searches, baggage, residence, open area, and scent box training.
